Bragging Rights: How to Talk about your Work Using Purposeful Self-Promotion

I'm still glowing from all the amazing conversations at last Thursday's launch of the transformational book Bragging Rights: How to Talk about your Work Using Purposeful Self-Promotion by Lisa Bragg.

I do love a party, particularly one involving a room full of dynamic women gathered to support an incredible woman’s accomplishment! And the space itself was very inspiring to me - the event was hosted by the gracious and engaging Elizabeth Dipchand in her law firm's (Dipchand LLP) offices.

I love what my dear friend and colleague Lisa Burchartz said about the book on Linkedin here - that listening to Lisa Bragg convinced her that "brag" is a great four letter word! That's transformation! (Photo, left to right, LIsa Burchartz, Lisa Bragg and me)

Here’s a thought-provoking quote from the book to whet your appetite:

"In construction, they use the term "sistering" to describe adding a second support to strengthen an area that isn't quite strong enough, such as floor joists. Jacki Zehner, an investor and former partner at Goldman Sachs, has developed a mantra based on this term: "We are sistering up in acknowledgement that there are still huge inequities and power structures that exist, and which result in gender-related disparities. By sistering up, we will accelerate positive change." [emphasis added]

- Lisa Bragg in her new and brilliant book Bragging Rights: How to Talk about your Work Using Purposeful Self-Promotion

Lisa Bragg reframes "bragging" into a positive and collaborative practice, even a necessity, at this time when so much of our world is being redesigned and redefined.   The book is a potent blend of evidence, theory and stories mixed with practical steps to make the incredible results of “bragging” real in your life.  In my first read (it won't be my last!), Lisa's ideas deepened my years-long exploration and application of the power of the positive emotions of pride and gratitude, along with a healthy dose of humility and an awareness of our interdependence with others.  I'm excited to put more of Lisa's advice into practice for myself and share with my coaching clients and colleagues.

If you read the book, pleae let me know what you found valuable!
