Seize the Summer!
Here in Toronto it's still relatively cool, but our precious Canadian summer-time is fast approaching!
How are your summer plans coming together?
What activities are you deliciously anticipating?
What kind of experience are you yearning to create for yourself this Summer?
When my husband and I were in law school, we would all joke around with Latin expressions (geeky maybe, but fun to me, since I love playing with words) – and “carpe diem”, “seize the day”, was one of our favourites. I think it's an apt mantra for creating a summer well-lived. So, this June's Feminine Power Women's Circle has a theme of Seizing the Summer.
At the Circle, inspired by the celebratory traditions of the Summer Solstice:
you will get clarity about what Seizing the Summer would look like for you
so you can set a powerful "Seizing the Summer" intention,
then you will be guided to come up with some concrete steps and
generate the support you need to make that intention come true.
That way, when September comes, you can look back on the Summer and feel really satisfied about having done your best to make the most of it. Otherwise, the risk is that the season will slip by us, and be gone before we know it. Our dreams of even one quiet afternoon on the hammock with a juicy novel disappear– poof, gone. This has happened to me – I remember a couple of September realizations where I found I never did lie in the darn hammock with my book, not even once.
How could I have missed out on that, when the hammock was so readily available to me for much of the summer?
What was I too busy doing?
One thing was sure: I was definitely not creating a summer which reflected that yearning. I felt sadness and regret as a result.
Well, let me tell you, those realizations have propelled me into becoming much more intentional about my Summers ever since.
And this lesson about intentionality can be extended into a lesson about our lives generally. This makes me think of a beautiful book called I Will Not Die An Unlived Life by Dawna Markova (which would actually pair well with the hammock...)
Seizing the Summer may not be about the hammock for you. And Seizing the Summer is not necessarily about planning a big exciting trip, or some other splashy event, either, though those can be very fun. Seizing the Summer is about what would be really meaningful for you –
When you really connect to yourself, dropping your attention down into your body with a nice big exhale, what are you yearning for this Summer?
What would bring you joy this Summer?
What would you love to reflect back on in the Fall?
What would Seizing the Summer look like for you?
I would love to hear from you virtually, and of course in person, at the Circle.
Come and join us!Press the pause button on Thursday night in order to connect with yourself, and pay attention to what it is you are yearning to create this Summer, so you can intentionally Seize the Summer and make that yearning come true.
