Seeing the World with New Eyes (Literally)!
I’m in awe of what I’m seeing now that I have new lenses in my eyes - I’m literally seeing the world with new eyes. I had cataract surgery in January. (Cataract surgery is considered major eye surgery - they broke up my lenses with a laser, removed them and implanted new lenses.)
The Lake of Your Heart 💙
What would it be like for you to plunge (or even dip a toe) into the lake of your heart? Come join me in this Making Room For YOU experiment… To turn inward this Valentine’s Day (or any other day!) and swim around in the welcoming waters of the lake of your heart.
How Are You at Apologizing (or Not)?
Inspired by Harriet Lerner's recent book Why Won't You Apologize? Healing Big Betrayals and Everyday Hurts, I've been thinking a lot about apologizing lately and how I can be better at it.
Where's the Magic in Your Mess?
Here’s a story from my life where things were messy and magical at the same time – often the case, right?
Considering Ourselves Leaders
Have you noticed that many people, especially women, don't consider themselves to be leaders, even though they are clearly often exhibiting leadership qualities? I have certainly seen this, and lived it too. Leadership needs some redefining and redesigning.
It’s Time for Us to Be Smarter with These Big Feelings
These times are providing an opportunity for us to grow and become more emotionally intelligent. Emotional intelligence is about being smarter with our feelings, bringing our cognition and our feelings together. (Definition from SixSeconds.org) Our feelings are important data to take in; we ignore them at our peril.
More About Love 2.0 - It's So Important!
Previously, I shared a message about the re-definition of love, sourced from research by the brilliant Dr. Barbara Fredrickson and her team and set out in Love 2.0: How Our Supreme Emotion Affects Everything We Feel, Think, Do and Become (2012). This note builds on the ideas in a bit more detail - they are so important for us to take in as we become more and more immersed in our virtual worlds. The research contained in Love 2.0 emphasizes the importance of being together in flesh and blood. In fact, being together in person is a requirement of Love 2.0. The in-person requirement is what I want to highlight here.
Does the Idea of a Circle of Women Make You Cringe?
Does the prospect of being in a workshop with a circle of women, most of whom you’ve just met, make you cringe? Does it actually scare you? If yes, I get it. I get it, because our society and many of the professions we are in - law (my background), medicine, academia, for example - seem to require us to always have the answers, to not show an iota of vulnerability. There is so much pressure to appear perfect.
A Grounded Loving Tornado
I have been playing around with naming a very powerful source of energy that I have been able to tap into at times in the last couple of years. I am calling it being a “grounded loving tornado”. My sense is that this energy is a type of human spirit energy – connecting to something larger than ourselves and also acting in alignment with our deepest values.
