International Women’s Day Wishes
Wishing you a fierce, tender, and playful International Women’s Day, inspired by my maternal grandmother, Mildred Maclean who would have been 113 years old today, March 8.
What a Foal Taught Me About My Leadership Presence
The main takeaway I got from the retreat was a teaching from the beautiful foal lying on the ground at my feet in the photo above.
Her teaching to me: that I am very, very trustworthy.
My learning since reflecting on the retreat recently: That since I'm so trustworthy, I can trust myself even more than I already have so far. I can grow into greater self-trust as I continue to grow into my leadership. (Not surprisingly, my clients also learn to trust themselves at much deeper levels through our work together. We coaches often coach on what we also need to learn. ;))
Bragging Rights: How to Talk about your Work Using Purposeful Self-Promotion
I'm still glowing from all the amazing conversations at last Thursday's launch of the transformational book Bragging Rights: How to Talk about your Work Using Purposeful Self-Promotion by Lisa Bragg.
International Women’s Day - Empowering & Galvanizing
That we women need help gathering our strength again is an equity issue. That we are willing to ask for and co-create this support is a sign of our already existing strength. However, we are actually even stronger. And we need help gathering that strength back in. It's more than time.
We've been shamed, denied, gaslit, crushed by others, by society and most devastatingly, by our own selves. Why? Because we've absorbed the harmful myths of a society steeped in the toxicity of patriarchy. This has been going on for more than 2,000 years!
Transforming Leadership
What happens when… 8 highly experienced and determined leaders, in consulting, facilitation and coaching, meet regularly for a year to create something useful and valuable for leaders and their organizations? In our case, we wrote an ebook called Transforming Leadership!
#IWD2022 - Breaking the Bias Together!
The world needs strong leaders who can sit and be present in the discomfort of the unknown and ask powerful questions of themselves and others, to rise to the challenges ahead.
How Are You at Apologizing (or Not)?
Inspired by Harriet Lerner's recent book Why Won't You Apologize? Healing Big Betrayals and Everyday Hurts, I've been thinking a lot about apologizing lately and how I can be better at it.
Inspiration at the SheEO Summit #IWD2021
I spent the day being inspired by some amazing, courageous, visionary women at the SheEO Summit - a very satisfying way to spend #IWD2021! SheEO is a global community of radically generous women building a $1B perpetual fund to support women working on the World’s To-Do List.
Considering Ourselves Leaders
Have you noticed that many people, especially women, don't consider themselves to be leaders, even though they are clearly often exhibiting leadership qualities? I have certainly seen this, and lived it too. Leadership needs some redefining and redesigning.
Growing: Courageous, Powerful and Connected
I have been spending the quiet time that I have in this very full “nest” of ours ;) reflecting on how to get really creative in the midst of these unusual times. The theme of growing has been front and centre for me, even more than usual. My intention is to help us all feel even more grounded and connected to ourselves and each other so that we can be courageous and can grow into this challenge, finding the opportunities in it.
It’s Time for Us to Be Smarter with These Big Feelings
These times are providing an opportunity for us to grow and become more emotionally intelligent. Emotional intelligence is about being smarter with our feelings, bringing our cognition and our feelings together. (Definition from SixSeconds.org) Our feelings are important data to take in; we ignore them at our peril.
Do You Believe in Synchronicities?
Do you believe in synchronicities? (I do. I want to make empowered meaning wherever I can get it!) I want to share a very fresh synchronicity – it just happened a few minutes ago. So, as you may know, I am hosting the first ever Making Room For YOU Circle tomorrow night. And, I have been planning on using the brilliant Claire Zammit’s Feminine Power visioning circle outline as the main structure for the Circle. It’s what I have used for the last two years and it is hugely effective.
It’s Cold and I’m Tired… Why Would I Go Out to a Circle?
You might well ask: Why would I make the effort to brave a dark, cold January night, after a long day, to join a Visioning Circle? Well, to answer your question, the bottom line is, the effort will pay off for you in spades – you may arrive tired, and even overwhelmed, but you will leave with a level of energy and clarity about your intentions for the year (and beyond!) that will be galvanizing for you. You will have clear steps to implement right away and a feeling that you are well supported.
How Does More Confidence and Ease Sound To You?
Exploring and harnessing our VIA Character Strengths will be an integral part of the upcoming Retreat. These strengths are considered the “backbone” of Positive Psychology. Research shows it is so much more powerful and effective to approach our lives, work and leadership from our strengths, instead of our weaknesses. And it’s a lot more enjoyable to live, work and lead this way! Indeed, finding ways to bring our top Character Strengths into every day has been found to be key to our well-being.
Are You In? Let Me Tell You How and Why "I'm In"
I am unabashedly evangelistic about SheEO - have you heard of it? It's existence and the women SheEO supports give me hope for the future of our world. Below I share the short story of about how and why "I'm In" - this whole post is less than a 3 minute read... the inspiration and energy you'll receive from learning more about SheEO will be well worth your time spent!
Fun is Not a Luxury
In my conversations with other women over the years, I have heard over and over about their yearning for Fun. But they often hold themselves back from creating fun in their lives - they see it as a luxury. I too am guilty of this. But Fun is not a luxury. It is not selfish. It is an essential ingredient in our lives. And we need to Make Room For It.
Blooming as a Catalytic Act of Leadership
What is so compelling about a bloom? The list is long – I am thinking about the power and the vulnerability of a bloom. In a flower, there is beauty, there may be a magnetic scent, and there is the vulnerability of the complete openness of a full bloom. When a woman blooms, there is also so much power and vulnerability. Blooming can be catalytic, an act of leadership.
Practices for A Successful Career Transition For Women Lawyers
These are all practices I use myself and recommend to my clients, whether in a transition or not, frankly, in most cases. They are tried and true. I am not a career coach per se - my expertise is in supporting professional women to be connected deeply to themselves, self-confident, and purposeful, so the practices reflect that perspective. They will be supportive to you in then being able to have the clarity and confidence to access the skills and support you need to make your career transition successfully.
Be An Agent of Social Change at Work
Do you feel a yearning to do more to change your work culture for the better? Maybe you also feel it’s really important to step into this contribution as a role model for future generations. You may feel a sense of urgency and a pull toward your yearning, especially in the last few months! The energy of the Women’s Marches may have contributed to your courage here as well as the sense of urgency you feel.
Taking A Stand As An Act of Leadership
I have been immersed in the Feminine Power Advanced Trainings since last June and it has been a transformative experience for me personally and professionally. As the trainings wind up and a 9 month practicum begins I am starting to integrate more and more what I have learned recently with what I knew “before”. It’s really fun – I love connecting dots and seeing what ideas I can come up with that really excite me and lead me to support others in more powerful ways.
